It was all change at the AGM, with Annie Appleyard having served her three year term as President and Kate Wythe taking over. In addition two long serving committee members have relinquished their roles. Sheila Heath has retired as Treasurer and Membership Secretary, and Eva White has retired as Chairman of Benevolent. We thank them both for their dedicated service to EAWL over many years. Annie Appleyard takes over as Treasurer and Membership Secretary, while Chairman of Benevolent remains vacant.
The Trustees of the Charity are now:
Kate Wythe – President
Annie Appleyard – Vice-President, Honorary Treasurer and Membership Secretary
Sue Harrison – Honorary Secretary
Ann Narraway – Secretary of Benevolent Committee
Penny Ansell – Editor of Jambo

The Spring Lunch and AGM at the Victory Services Club was well attended, and much enjoyed by all. Dr Chris Spring gave us a very interesting talk about Textiles of Eastern and Southern Africa, illustrated with slides and examples.
Our final lunch of the year was a great success with 42 of us enjoying a delicious curry prepared by Davina’s dedicated band of helpers. Lots of books for sale, a bring and buy, raffle and well stocked bar ensured everyone kept busy and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The photos speak for themselves!
We had a very sociable lunch at the Tempest Arms in Elslack, Skipton, Yorkshire on the 26th September. So sociable that our photographer forgot to take any photos! Twenty people attended, despite the fuel crisis, and we were served a very delicious curry by the hotel. There was an abundance of raffle prizes and a generous amount was raised for our Benevolent Fund. Many thanks to Jenni for organising and to all those who came.
We had a lovely lunch at Guildford Cathedral Refectory on 14th August. The curry was delicious as always and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, as evidenced by the photos below:
We now have confirmed dates for the remaining lunch dates of the year. Please see the Dates for the Diary page.
Our Post-Lockdown London lunch was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by members, old and new, and their guests. The Victory Services Club provided a delicious curry lunch, with sticky chocolate brownies to follow. After so long without the opportunity to catch up there was a warm atmosphere with the usual non-stop chatter, as evidenced by the photos below.
Now that restrictions are being eased we are holding a Somerset/Dorset/Wiltshire Lunch on Tuesday August 17th at Long Sutton Golf Club, Long Load, TA10 9JU. Details and the invitation form can be found HERE.
Government Guidelines permitting, we intend to hold a Post-Lockdown Lunch at the Victory Services Club in London on Tuesday 27th July. There will not be a speaker, just lots of time to catch up with all those people you haven’t seen for a long time. The invitation form can be found here and payments for last year’s cancelled Spring Lunch can be transferred to this event.
